About
Nívea Freitas is a music artist whose practice moves between singing, creation, research, and artistic direction. Her work extends beyond the stage as a soprano, encompassing the conception of cultural projects, scriptwriting, the creation of new concert formats, and the integration of languages such as audiovisual, dramaturgy, and multimedia. In her original works, she develops an interdisciplinary approach in which she acts as performer, creator, director, and producer.
A PhD student in the “Analytical and Creative Processes” track, under the supervision of José Padovani and Axel Petri-Preis, she recently completed a one-year Erasmus period at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Vienna, Austria), with support from Fapemig and the Erasmus+ program. Her international training includes the Konzertexamen and a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, in the class of Mark Tucker.
In Brazil, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Lyrical singing and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from UFMG, with additional studies at Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris) and advanced training at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where she received the diploma “Chant Lyrique, à l’unanimité du jury,” under the guidance of Caroline Dumas.
As a performer, she has collaborated with major institutions and concert halls such as the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, the Ouro Preto Orchestra, Sala Cecília Meireles, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, and Staatsoper Hamburg, in addition to an extensive activity in chamber music.
The uniqueness of her trajectory lies in a multidisciplinary background that includes an initial Bachelor’s degree in Physics from UFMG. This foundation, combined with her research in musical performance, supports an artistic practice that brings together critical reflection and creation. Her projects investigate new forms of concert experience, proposing relationships between repertoire, narrative, and contemporary themes, often through scenic and audiovisual devices.
In 2018, she won the German competition CLAB Festival – Neue Konzert Ideen with the project Cuckooland: Ein Liederabend mit Animationsfilm und Multimedia. Among her audiovisual creations are the series Ophelia, a Louca (2020), Ophelia, a Histérica (2021), and the documentary Economia Criativa em Perspectiva: Bastidores de Da Terra à Lua, produced with public funding for culture.
She conceived and founded CASA HÍBRIDO, a collaborative space dedicated to the creative economy, which operated from 2019 to 2026, hosting initiatives by micro-entrepreneurs and cultural projects, as well as CASA HÍBRIDO PRODUÇÕES, dedicated to the creation and production of artistic projects in the fields of music performance and audiovisual media.
