Ophelia, The Hysterical

The project “Ophelia, the Hysteric” is an audiovisual performance proposal based on the repertoire Drei Lieder der Ophelia, Op. 67, by Richard Strauss (Three Songs of Ophelia), a cycle of three songs presented in three episodes. Each episode offers an artistic reflection, narrated and visually illustrated, based on an analysis of the character Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
The performance draws a parallel between the suffering of this 17th-century fictional character and the reality of women around the world today, particularly regarding the impact of patriarchal thinking and violence against women.
